Privacy notice for students and families
Our students are children, so we collect as little as we can.
What we collect
About students
- First name and last name
- Grade
- An optional class label chosen by the school, such as “Room 12”
- Test activity: when the test was started and submitted, the answers typed, and the score
We do not collect student email addresses, birthdates, home addresses, phone numbers, photos or any government ID.
About teachers and parents
If you use the interest form we collect your name, email, school and message so we can reply to you.
Technical data
A session cookie keeps a student logged in during the test. Our hosting provider may keep ordinary server logs. We use no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers.
Why we collect it
Only to run the contest: to create a login for each student, to give them the right grade test, to score it, to calculate awards and to print certificates. We do not use student data for marketing or profiling.
Who sees it
Contest organizers at Horizon Leadership Academy, and the service providers that host the site (our hosting and database provider). We never sell student data and never share it for advertising. Passwords and login links are stored in hashed form, so staff cannot read them after they are first shown.
How long we keep it
Student records and test answers are kept for the current contest season and the one after it, so that schools can look back at results. After that, records are deleted or reduced to anonymous totals. Interest-form messages are kept for up to 12 months. The final retention period will be confirmed in the reviewed notice.
Your choices and how to request deletion
A parent or guardian, or the school, can ask us to show, correct or delete a student’s record at any time. Email [CONTACT EMAIL] with the student’s name, grade and school. We will confirm the request and complete it promptly. Deleting a record removes the student’s scores and awards from the contest.
The school is responsible for deciding whether a student takes part, and for any parental consent it requires.
