Rules

How the contest works on test day

Short and plain, so students and parents can read them together.

The six rules

Your own work

Students solve every problem by themselves. No help from other people, websites, AI tools or books during the test. Scratch paper and a pencil are welcome.

No calculators

Calculators, phone calculators and computer algebra tools are not allowed. Every problem can be solved by hand.

One attempt

Each student takes their grade test once. After the test is submitted, it cannot be started again.

20 questions

Every test has 20 questions. Each question is worth the same number of points unless it says otherwise. Wrong or blank answers do not lose points.

Timed by grade

Grades 2-3 have 40 minutes, grades 4-5 have 45 minutes and grades 6-8 have 50 minutes. The clock starts when the student presses Start and is kept by our server.

Answers are typed

Every answer is typed into a text box. Fractions like 3/8 are fine. Do not type units. Spelling out a number is not needed; digits are best.

Good to know

  • Answers save automatically, and a student can go back and change them until the time is up or the test is submitted.
  • When time runs out, the test is submitted automatically with the answers that were saved.
  • Students should test in a quiet place, ideally with a teacher or parent nearby who can help with the technology but not the math.
  • Sharing questions or answers during the window, in any form, is not allowed and may lead to a score being removed.
